Samuel Evans’s brother John had a farm in Fron, just up the road, and he and his family emigrated to Canada in 1911.
His grandson, Dennis Evans, regularly comes over to Coedpoeth, and he sent us us the memories of his auntie Winnifred, and of Florence Jones (née Evans) who grew up at Nant Mill. There was much work even for the children, who helped churn the butter, cared for the large vegetable garden and looked after the farm horses. The stable was where the toilets are today. Winnifred remembered watching from the Wynnstay Arms when the fair came to Wrexham: “The big attraction was the fire engines with their bells ringing, pulled by the best horses that could be found.”
