Minera limeworks were served by the Wrexham and Minera Railway which ran from the main line at Wrexham, through Brymbo where it also provided transport for Brymbo Steelworks.
The section of line between Brymbo and Minera had originally been part of the former North Wales Mineral Railway, built in 1844 but this was limited by rope-worked inclines. The new line was fully completed in June 1866.
It was the introduction of the railway that enabled the production at Minera Quarry to expand.
There was a private branch line which ran from the quarry to the Minera Lead Mines and the track-bed still remains providing a walking route between the two.
By 1887 Minera Limeworks Co owned 212 of their own wagons and these have been immortalised by model railway manufacturers such as Dapol.
